Elder James Parker Obituary

Elder James Parker, age 91, transitioned to his heavenly home during the early morning on November 18, 2018.

Funeral Services will be held at Holy Trinity Community Church, 607 S. Road St., Elizabeth City, NC  27909 on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 am, and will be conducted by Bishop Landon Mason.  Burial will follow at the Overton Family Cemetery Simpson Ditch Rd., Elizabeth City, NC.  The Family will receive relatives and friends at the residence located at 436 Chapanoke Rd., Hertford, NC  27944.  There will also be a viewing at Stallings Funeral Home, 401 Dyer St., Elizabeth City, NC  27909, on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 7:00pm.  

 

Elder James Henry Parker was born on September 20, 1927 to the late Charlie and Hattie Riddick Parker in Perquimans County, Hertford, NC. He was raised in Chapanoke with his five sisters and five brothers.  Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death:  Grizelle Parker Miller, Hattie Pearl Parker Coston, Lillie M. Parker Spellman, Mattie E. Parker Davis, Charlie Parker, Sr., and George Parker.

 

James joined Bagley’s Chapel Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member until he joined Healing Fountain Holiness Church, where he served as a Deacon and later ordained as an Elder.  He loved fellowshipping with various congregations to share in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.  One of his favorite Scriptures was Hebrew 12:14 “Follow Peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”  He was a pillar for the Elizabeth City, Pasquotank, and Perquimans County areas.  Bro. Parker, as he was often called, encouraged his family, friends, and others to always show love and “In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”  1 Thessalonians 5:18.  He loved visiting the sick and having prayer with them.

 

He married Esther Butts in 1947 and they were married for 70 years, and were Blessed with five children.  James leaves a legacy of memories, Elder Henry Parker (Shirley-deceased) Roper, NC, Esther P. Cooper (Charlie – deceased) Elizabeth City, NC, Virgie P. Clark (James, Jr.) Wilmington, DE, Nettie P. Saunders (James, Jr.) Elizabeth City, NC, and Michael W. Parker (Brenda) Panama City, FL.  One sister, Mary B. McCray (Leroy) Philadelphia, PA, three brothers Josephus Parker (Louise), Linwood Parker, Leonidas Parker, all of Hertford, NC.  Eleven Grandchildren, twenty Great Grandchildren, eight Great Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
