Emma Frances Burke

Emma F. Burke 87, of 518 Woodville Road, Hertford NC, departed this life to meet her heavenly Father on Thursday , January 4, 2018.She was a lifelong virtuous woman who worked hard to raise her family of eight children alongside her husband, Clarence, a farmer in Woodville, NC.Her sense of duty, obligation and commitment would follow her throughout a lifetime as a pillar of the community in various leadership roles. She loved serving Poole"s Grove Missionary Baptist Church the "Agricultural Extension Service" (now NC Cooperative Extension), 4-H,Guardian Ad Litem, the Roanoke Missionary Baptist Institute and various anxiliaries of church leadership.

Emma was born on October 9, 1930 near Maple, NC in Currituck County to the late Roosevelt and Mary Trotman Seymore. She met the love of her life, Clarence and they married in 1948. He left her on May 18, 2017 and will welcome her with open arms.To this union eight children were born: Paul of Chesapeake, VA; Carol burke BoNey(Dwight) of Hamilton, NJ; Edwin(deceased); Don of Hertford, NC; Addis(deceased); Cedric(Aretha) of Elizabeth City, NC; Travis of Elizabeth City, NC and Damion(Penny) of Powells Point, NC. Emma was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was survived by two brothers Arthur Seymore of Bridgehampton, Ny and Phillip Seymore of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00am at the Evangelical Methodist Church located at 820 Old Okisko Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Entombment  will be at West Lawn Cemetery following the funeral. Services will be officiated by Rev. Dr. William Sawyer. The family will receive friends and vistors from 6pm-8pm., on Tuesday January 9, 2018 at Poole's Grove Missionary Baptist Church-309 Woodville Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
