Barbara Zachary Powell

Barbara Z. Powell  of Hertford NC was call to be with her Heavenly Father on April 22, 2020.

Celebration of Life for Barbara Z. Powell will be on Friday, May 1, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Service and  Interment will be at the Zachary Family Cemetery. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Barbara Zachary Powell was born to the late Junious and Hattie Zachary on July 28, 1959. She departed this earthly life at Sentara Albemale Medical Center on Thursday, April 23, 2020, and went home to meet her Heavenly Father. She grew up in Perquimans County, North Carolina.

Barbara displayed love and compassion for her family and others. She would help people in any way she could and would give the shirt off her back if they need it. She attended Perquimans County High School, and later went on to attend College of the Albemarle, where she graduated with highest honors with an associate degree in business administration. She later went on to obtain a degree in massage therapy from Kee Business College, graduating with highest honors and the title of Reiki Master. She worked for W.T. Davis attorney at law for six years. 

Her hobbies included fishing, cooking, and playing with her beloved dog, Pee Wee. She loved to dance and sing; no one was dismissed until she had belted out the last note of her favorite tune. Interrupt and your personal concert started over from the top. Barbara gave selflessly of herself so that her children would have a better life, pushing them to reach for the stars. She lived for her grandchildren and treasured every moment, every hug, and every memory.

She leaves to cherish so many loving memories her husband, Lance Powell, who loved her with all his heart and will solely miss her: two children, Wallace E. Brothers Jr. (Krystal) of Durham, NC and Raven E. Cole (Sakima) of Tarboro, NC; four grandchildren, Shamarri Turner, Jaylen Hester, Wallace E. Brothers III, and Maddox D. Brothers; three sisters, Katherine Brothers (Andrew), Elizabeth City NC, Theodoria Belk(Willliam) of Charlotte, NC and Janet Mclaurin of Fayetteville, NC; eight brothers, Lionell Zachary (late Brenda) of Harlem, NY; Keno Zachary (Denise) of Glen Cove, NY; Barry Zachary (Debbie) of Miramar, FL, Jan Zachary (Karen) of Edenton, NC, Jerry Zachary (Edna) of Edenton, NC, Louis Zachary(Deceased), Shelton Zachary (Deceased), Larry Zachary (Deceased) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Stallings Memorial Chapel is serving the Zachary and Powell family with Professional Care and Sympathetic Service.
