Mt an early age, Mary joined Ashland Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a “Faithfull” choir
Mary Cobb Harris,(72) transitioned from life to reward on Monday, June 22, 2020.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27,2020 @ 12 noon with a visitation 1 hour prior to service at the Ashland Missionary Baptist Church in Merry Hill, N.C with Pastor Best as Eulogist. Her earthly remains will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Mary attended Southwestern High School in Bertie County at which she graduated class of 1966.
Following her graduation she enrolled at Coppin County College (Historically Black College) in Baltimore,
Maryland and received her Accounting Degree.
Mary’s passion for accounting and bookkeeping opened many doors for her; therefore, ensuring great
employment opportunities throughout her career. She worked for Law Firms, Hospitals, Distribution
Centers, and even landed a position as head of the payroll department at a major hotel casino in Atlantic
City, NJ.
Her most rewarding venture consisted of relocating to North Carolina, purchasing a home for her family
and starting her own Bookkeeping and Payroll Business in Elizabeth City, NC. Mary named her business
MBM Services Incorporated (MBM meaning-Mary, Beverly, Malcolm) at which she served and helped
many clients. She remained in operation for over 30 years.
Mary’s first husband John Owens preceded her in death in 2002. The married couple had one child
(daughter) Beverly Owens. Later in life Mary had another child (Son) Malcolm Ray Riddick.
Mary is survived by second husband Todd R. Harris of 27 years (Elizabeth City, NC), daughter Beverly
Owens (Greenwood, South Carolina) and Malcolm R. Riddick (Elizabeth City, NC). She is survived by her
siblings: George Leon Cobb of Merry Hill, (Vivian), Lemuel Sr. Cobb of Merry Hill, (Geraldine), Lucille
Cobb Brinkley (Peaches) of Cheverly, MD, Diane Cobb Gilliam of Baltimore, MD (Floyd) and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives, her friends as well as many business affiliates.
Stallings Funeral Home will be assisting the Cobb and Harris family with excellence and care during their time of bereavement.
