Mountray Perry Godfrey

HERTFORD - Mountray Perry Godfrey, age 98, of Perquimans County, Hertford, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at her residence. The second of nine children, Mountray was born on August 25, 1919 to the late William Edward Perry, Sr. and Catherine Davis Perry. She was married to the late Joe Louis Godfrey, Sr. for 66 years.Mountray was educated in the Elizabeth City public school system, graduating from P.W. Moore High School. She continued he education at Elizabeth City State College (now known as Elizabeth City State University) receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She was a member of Poole's Grove Baptist Church, she was the mother of the church and she will be very missed by all.

Montray is survived by her loving children, Peggy Lee Godfrey Drinkard (Gerald), Elaine Godfrey Hester (Kenneth) and Vincent Godfrey; one sister, Allean Johnson; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with her family at Poole's Grove Missionary Baptist Church for viewing on Friday, July 6, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and may also attend her funeral services at Poole's Baptist Church on Saturday, July 7, at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Linwood Turner as Eulogist. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Albemarle Home Care and Hospice.
