Norma McCann Obituary

A once-in-a-lifetime woman whose outgoing, generous, and selfless love knew no bounds. Norma Leigh McCann passed away peacefully surrounded by an abundance of loved ones the evening of Sunday, April 13th, 2025. Never bashful to dance when her song came on, or dole out hugs and kisses, Norma lived everyday as an adventure. She wore her heart on her sleeve, never hesitating to tell both family and friends she loved them. Norma had a knack for leaving a lasting impression wherever she went and on whoever she met. She was the life of the party, quick to tell a funny story, and loved with her whole heart every day. A natural giver and caretaker, she selflessly supported many without ever seeking anything in return. As the youngest and only girl among five older brothers, she learned early-on how to hold her own, growing into a woman known for her strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit. A life-long resident of Chesapeake, Virginia, Norma grew up in the Great Bridge area and attended Great Bridge high school. In her youth, she was regularly found alongside her brothers and neighborhood friends, riding dirt bikes. In her later years, she rediscovered that passion, finding joy riding her motorcycle with close friends. Norma's infectious personality touched countless lives, both personally and professionally. She dedicated over two decades of service, teaching and positively impacting the lives of students in the Chesapeake public school system.

Norma cherished many roles throughout her life, but none more important than that of being "MawMaw". She took immense pride in being a phenomenal grandmother to her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She made it her mission to craft unique fun and meaningful experiences with each of them, creating lasting memories that will carry her legacy forward.

A proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, wife and great friend to so many! Norma is survived by her husband of 45 years Michael McCann Sr., her son, Michael McCann Jr. (Ashley), daughter Michelle Moran (Timothy), grandchildren Micah, Maraya, Micaiyah, Ellarae, Ronan, great grandson River, and brother Mark (Mary). Norma was predeceased by her mother and father Willie Eugene and Francis Old, brothers Gene, Barry, John, and Tracy Old. A private event will be held for family and close friends in Norma's honor.
