Shirley Ann Walker was born on November 11, 1949 in Camden County, North Carolina to the late Johnnie Walker and Elizabeth Overton-Walker. She transitioned from this life on October 14, 2023.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Elizabeth Walker, her two husbands, sisters, Mable Joyce Rattler, Thelma Dunston, and Ruth B. Dodson, and brothers, James, Joe, Leroy, and Collis Walker.
Shirley was generous, loving, and funny with a heart of gold. She will always be remembered for the massive get togethers she would have at her house, the holiday parties, the yard sales and fish fries she would have in front of her house and of course, her most loved greens & potato salad. Mom’s name alone held so much weight in the community. She was loved by everyone and never met a stranger. She became a 2nd mother to a lot of those who didn’t have a mother. She was a “One of a kind” type of a woman.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her four daughters, Shanita Ackerson of Elkhart, Indiana, Contadina Ozuna of Pontiac, Michigan, Delana Arnett and Ashley Arnett both of Fort Wayne, Indiana, our Lil brother, Max, one brother, Lewis (Barbara) Walker, and one sister, Lizzy Mae Bromsey, both of South Mills, North Carolina, along with 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A wake will take place on Tuesday,October 24, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Samuel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest at the Walton Overton Cemetery.
