William Alton Mitchell

ELIZABETH CITY - William Alton Mitchell, Sr., 88 years old, died October 10, 2018. Funeral will be Monday, October 15, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church at 2 pm. Visitation will be Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Stallings Funeral Home from 5 pm to 7 pm. At other times, the family will be at 1460 Lambs Grove Road at the home of his son, William and Shelia Mitchell.

He joined Mt. Carmel at an early age. He also did Sunday morning radio broadcasting for WGAI-AM. He loved singing with the Golden C's gospel quartets. He managed Mitchell's Amoco gas station in Newland and also loved sponsoring Mitchell's Amoco baseball team. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle. He was also a very friendly and well known guy in the community.

He is the son of the late William and Otelia Mitchell. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Beulah A. Mitchell; a son, Caspee Mitchell; a sister, Audrey Marsette; and brothers Herny Mitchell Jr., Gilbert Mitchell and Roy Mitchell.

Survivors include 7 daughters, Lula Goodman, Johnnie Coleman (Charle), Novella Harris (Edward), Beulah Lassitee (John), and Monona Hall(Sherrod); 3 sons, Timothy Mitchell, William Mitchell, Jr. (Shelia), Arlanda Mitchell (Nellie); 3 sisters, Commellia Lowry, Shirley Hoskins, Vivian Wingate; 31 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
